types). I knew the minute I said some sh*t - they would come out the woodwork in mass - and I see they have....as I said (& illustrated) things no one dare say in their world - sacred topics no one is supposed to dare question, lol. I love ultrarunners! ....and these guys emailing me...please...stop it. Most of you have been running what? 5, 10, 15, 20 years or so? Read the blog - I've been doing this thing for 32 years - got into it chasing Regina Jacobs as a teen in Oakland, CA, The NYRR & Athlinks won't show my best performances - they were done in Kenya, England, & China (the mainland) in the 80's. There's photos of me in the 80's on this blog for example in the SF Bay To Breakers, etc and yes, one day I will run the Rodeo Beach 50K or possibly the Mt. Diablo 50K for one reason - to win the race. I think Rodeo is the cherry pick, I have no shame and I will only put 1 toe in the Ultraworld (50K). Look at me, I'm a sprinter for crissakes - a local superstar runner just got me into racing with the NYRR - and that's John Samsel - there on the right, a 64 year old White guy - my best running buddy - everyone on the NYC running scene knows John - I started this blog a year ago paying tribute to John - check it - and no this is not the last entry - but it's close.....and I just run middle distance & distance for the heck of it - because I can - and for reasons very much in line with this collegiate kid above - check the video - need inspiration to go put in those training miles - it's funny how sometimes these kids in the running game can inspire us old Masters..... it's a great 5 minute investment! Have a great day.

Why I Run & Those Pesky Ultra Runners....

A ~3 hour marathoner with little or no trail or hill experience will not win Diablo or RB 50K. (You think NYC is a tough course????) Won't happen. Chances are, you'll go charging up that first 1,000' climb and you'll wreck yourself doing it. Based on what I've read here on this blog, you might not even finish the race.
I hope you decide to try it. It will be a joy to watch you eat the entire crow, beak and all.
Lance,
Your are good Man!! Stirring shit up! But I guess I will still Keep running slow marathons and slow 100's. Running fast is to much work:)
Marathons don't have full service aid stations like Ultra's. I think the great food at the aid stations is why I like running Ultra's at
5'7 180 I do like to eat.

I just think it's funny how you waste your time ragging on ultrarunning. Overrated? By who? Nobody but ultra runners (and old guys who like to make fun of people to make them selves feel better) even know what ultrarunning is. If I wanted fame or publicity I would tryout for the New England Patriots, not run 100 miles. We run because we like to run, what's wrong with that? It's almost like you're rebutting and argument that was never made. We don't want your fame or your fast marathon times, keep 'em. Let me know when you try your first ultra. I'm not much into competing but I'll train for that one, just so you don't ever win an ultra event.
Josh, you're 22 years old, you've been running less than 2 years. I actually, literally, truly have running shoes older than you, lol. I like your tenacious spirit & spunk and I think it's great that you're running & amazing that you're running ultras. However you are young - and don't quite "get it".
Some of your older ultra peers do - have emailed me and gotten a kick out of my rhetoric. When you're older - you'll learn there's value in "stirring it up" & "shaking the foundation" every now then.
Good luck in your training & stay healthy!
Lance,
You're seriously going to screw up my morning routine if you discontinue this blog. Right now it looks like this:
1. Run 10 miles. Check.
2. Coffee. Check.
3. Breakfast. Check.
4. Read e-mail. Check.
5. Learn something new about life and running from Lance's refreshing perspective.
--OR--
5. Dog Lance for whatever fool-jive he has in his blog today.
Either way, you're going to be missed!
Happy trails & happier endings,
Richard
You have a wife? Wow...now thats impressive
Lance:
Say it ain't so! Your blog can't be coming to an end. We need you!
If writing a daily blog has become too tedious, perhaps you can have guest bloggers. You could submit an entry once a week, and then have your guest bloggers write for you the remainder of the week. I would be more than happy to write additional posts on topics such as hair care tips, relationship advice (specifically, what it means when Miracle Girl repeatedly calls a man and he doesn't answer), etc.

You're the blogging version of the Fox Broadcasting Company. Going for shock over actual content is one way to go, I suppose. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
